VOICES OF CULTURE
"Culture and the Sustainable Development Goals: Challenges and Opportunities"

The European platform Voices of Culture supports the process of structured dialogue between cultural stakeholders and the European Commission. The project is implemented by the Goethe-Institut Brüssel.
Mihaela Clincu, Director of Development and Innovation represented the Kasta Morrely Association in the process of structured dialogue of Culture with the theme "Culture and the Sustainable Development Goals: Challenges and Opportunities".

The activity took place between October 2020 and February 2021. The works included two days of brainstorming between 45 European organizations, institutions, networks representative in the cultural field, selected from 22 European countries and a dialogue session with representatives of the European Commission on culture.
This dialogue process helps to support the cultural sector in cultural policy debates at European level, while encouraging the cultural sector and the European Commission to work as collaboratively as possible.

The theme "Culture and the Sustainable Development Goals: Challenges and Opportunities" is addressed following the fact that in September 2020, cultural officials in the European Union decided to create an action plan on the cultural dimension of sustainable development as well as considering the context of the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development - 2021. The Council mandated a working group under the open method of coordination to work on the same theme and contribute to the action plan. The OMC Group, which will meet in 2021, was also invited to build on the conclusions of the Voices of Culture dialogue.
The structured dialogue activity "Culture and the Sustainable Development Goals: Challenges and Opportunities" addressed in particular the objectives of sustainable development: SDG 4. Education; SDG 8. Growth and employment; SDG 11. Sustainable Communities and SDG 13. Climate Change.

A main result of the activity is the Voices of Culture Report, achieved by the participating cultural experts, following the brainstorming process, the first report made at European level on this topic of interest.

In the report, the representative of Kasta Morrely, Mihaela Clincu, is member in the writing and the editing team, focusing on the role of the cultural field in the Sustainable Development Objective 4: Quality Education.
The report, created in a professional and well-documented manner, includes challenges for the cultural sector, the vision of the cultural field in relation to the sustainable development objectives and recommendations to the European Commission.
